Here’s What + Rock ‘n’ Roll USA

Don’t you guys worry.  No matter how many times I post on my wedding, how many times I whine about how my throat hurts this week, or how often I blog about my dog, rest absolutely assured that I will never, never forget how and where this started.  And that was a running blog.  That said, if you’ve missed my last few “Here’s What:  What Three Things am I Obsessed With” posts, here they are!

So this week was the week from absolute hell at my real job, and that’s all I will say.  So Happy Friday, beautiful readers!  Now Here’s What Three Things I’m Obsessed with This Week!

  • Numero uno is powered by Rock ‘n’ Roll, and yes honey bunnies, I am running the Rock ‘n’ Roll USA 1/2 Marathon, and I couldn’t be more thrilled about it!

wiigroll

First off, DC is one of my favorite cities in the US, so that certainly doesn’t hurt a race weekend.  Secondly, Rock ‘n’ Roll USA has made some pretty sweet changes this year, a few of which I’ll list for you, real convenient-like!

  1. The 5k.  For folks who feel like they don’t have the time at this point to register for the 1/2 or the full marathon, or for those of you new to what Rock ‘n’ Roll is all about, the 5k will give you a little taste of what Rock ‘n’ Roll does.  At 3.1 gorgeous miles, you’ll still have the cheerleaders and the music to push you along, without necessarily having to commit to a scary distance just yet.
  2. The race is run entirely in the district, which means that you get to run with some amazing monuments as a backdrop.  Seriously, if you’ve never run a race in DC, running with the history of our nation passing you by is a really incredible feeling.
  3. The race is on a Saturday, meaning that it’s not gonna eat up your entire weekend.  And that’s pretty darn cool!

So if you’re interested in signing up, click here.  I will be there, and I will be talking about this race up til the big day, Saturday, March 15th.

  • Speedwork.  I’ve never really put much stock into speedwork before this marathon training (I’m running another Rock ‘n’ Roll in Raleigh in April,) but I’m finding that even though I have to drag myself, kicking and screaming to do it, that once I get started, I love the way I feel, and I totally love the way I feel afterward.  Seriously, I think the endorphins go into overdrive cause I am really, really feeling myself when it’s time to be done with speedwork!
  • Sleep.  I am slightly sick this week, with a little sore throat and some congestion, and all I can think about is sleep.

Early this week at work, I had to go into the utility closet for something, and I fantasized about going all the way to the back of it and napping for a while before my senses took back over.  Sleep, I just wanna hold you.  Mama loves you so much!

Your turn!  What three things are you obsessed with?

[Full disclosure lady bugs!  I was planning to run Rock ‘n’ Roll USA in prep for April’s marathon, and as a member of the media, I was comped an entry by Rock ‘n’ Roll.  But have no fear because every last opinion is my own, and I will be giving my honest, heartfelt opinion!]

Happy Friday! Here’s what! What three things are you obsessed with?

Hi sexy readers!

I have a confession.  Between the marathon training, trying to be a domestic goddess, and work, Mama is tired.  And I’m not sure what to do to get back to feeling like I’m well rested.  But I’ve been staying up late working on the blog, running a ton and not really sleeping a ton.  I really wish there were more hours in the day, but there aren’t, so I really really need to learn to maximize my time.  I’m figuring it out.

But at any rate, here’s what three things I’m obsessed with this week!

  • Demi Lovato.  Bitch is baaad.

This is from Demi’s IG, I obviously didn’t take this photo myself.

I have been a fan for a long time, and I bought tickets for me and my sister to go see her Neon Light’s Tour on Sunday night.  Eep!  I love the voice, and I especially love her because, 1, she is Mexican and doing it for the women of color, and 2, she’s been really open with her struggles with self-harm, an eating disorder, and her Bipolar Disorder.  It’s hard to be open about mental health issues, and she is so cool for doing that.

  • My Garmin.  I’m not getting paid by them (I wish I was) to say this, but I’m still rocking the 610 (now the 620), and I continue to be impressed by all the features I didn’t use until now.  Especially the customizable interval feature, which comes in super handy for speed work!
  • This dog.  I’m literally the biggest dog fan in the world, but I only have one because I live in an apartment.  But look at who I met today at Starbucks?

This dog is a malti poo, and his name is Picasso.  He is so cute, but I’m so torn.  I’m a big big fan of rescuing your animals, but how do I acquire a mali-poo like Picacsso in an adoption fashion? Hm.

Happy Friday yawl!  What three things are you obsessed with this Friday?

Here’s what. What three things are you obsessed with?

You guys literally get so much of me today, you probably can’t stand it right?  So last week, I did my “Here’s What,” as a tribute to the great Andrew Cohen, the executive producer of like, so much amazing stuff on Bravo.  And here we are, back again for the second round on Friday.

So, here’s what.

  • Buying these Oreos last night.

I think I told you guys that Oreo was coming out with two limited edition flavors.  One of them is like super weird, so I really couldn’t bring myself to try them, but last night, after a friend alerted me of their arrival to the local Food Lion, I grabbed them on the way home from class, and waited until after dinner to try them.  The verdict?  They wasn’t all dat.  They wasn’t all dat at all, and they’re really too sweet for anyone to be feeding them to their children.  I’m still convinced that the best part of the Oreo is that outside cookie part.

  • Veggie Dinner.

I’ve talked to you guys about my love of veggie dinner, which is when you heat up a bag of vegetables, throw some protein in it (like some tofu or an egg), and then you eat it.  Low-cal, easy, and a good way to get back on track if you feel like you’ve been eating nothing but crap all day.  Veggies and Oreos.  My kinda lady.

  • And finally, I can’t believe I’m saying this, but the treadmill has been a good friend for the past few weeks.  In case you’ve been out of touch with the mainland here, last week the weather in North Carolina was atrocious, especially by southern standards.  Running outside was not only really uncomfortable, but it also sorta dangerous.  We don’t have equipment to really plow a whole lot of snow and ice, so a lot of the sidewalks, trails, and driveways were totally iced over for the week.  So that said, I took to the treadmill for a few of the longer runs last week, and actually survived with the help of Netflix.  Now quite obviously, I’d rather be outside just so I don’t have to make conversation every time someone wants to use my treadmill, but I’ll take what I can.
