Random things Friday.

It’s been a while since I’ve done a post like this, but I think these posts are really good because they give you an accurate picture of what goes on inside my brain. Which is a LOT. And I don’t necessarily mean in the MENSA way, I mean in the ADD, pass the Adderall kind of way.

Onto the random things!

1. I wanted to run long on Thursday morning, but I fell asleep with a pretty severe headache and a touch of a sore throat. I almost NEVER get sick so it was sort of alarming. I woke up yesterday morning after some pretty fitful dreams, with an even bigger headache, and I spent most of the morning on the couch answering some emails and chugging coffee and water to try and get the headache to go away/flush some of that nasty stuff out of my body.

2.  I noticed some people who ran Tobacco Road had posted some of their times and photos from the race.  Check out this proof!

So I ran 13.1 miles after arriving at a race late, and since I was late I could not check a bag.  this means I had my jacket (that was wayyyy too expensive for me to ditch), my water, and my phone, all with me.  Oh well, race ended well despite some residual soreness from having to fight my way up from the back of the pack during the race.  Check out that lobster red face!

3.  I think I found some tickets in a really good section of Stevie Wonder in Newark in April to surprise my dad with.  For the most part I don’t think my dad reads this blog super often.  If he happens to be reading today my surprise is ruined.  Also, is there a reason why ticket scalpers need to make all of our lives extremely difficult by buying up all the tickets?  A lot of times they have to drop the price down in the final days before the concert.  That has to be stressful.  Is that worth it?  Can’t they be normal people and get a second job that requires not gumming up Ticketmaster for the rest of us?

4.  CamelBak Eddy

I drink out of this thing on the regs. All sorts of watery beverages. Water, sparkling water. You know, I get pretty crazy. Well I happened to be looking at the bite valve on this thing last week, and it was full of mold. Which is kind of terrifying. But also explains why ::knock on wood:: that I’ve not been really sick in a long time.  Like I don’t count a little sore throat that I’m dealing with now.  But I’ve been ingesting all sorts of disgustingness while I’ve been trying to stay hydrated for some time.  Gross.  Also intriguing.

5.  My performance appraisal is next week.  Eep.  I hope it goes well.  It kind of makes my stomach hurt to think about it.  I’ve done a good job at my job, and I love my job, but I know there are things I can improve on.  And I want to take the time between this PA and next years to kill it even harder.

Tell me one random thing!

My sister is getting married tomorrow + random things Friday

My little sister is getting married tomorrow in South Carolina, so tomorrow morning, while all you sleepy-heads are sleeping, I am going to pack myself up, head down, and snap a few photos of my little sister getting hitched.

Deb is the one on the far right, and this photo was taken when she was the white rabbit in her middle school’s production of Alice in Wonderland.  We were all so little.  And now, she’s getting married like WHAAAA!  It’s so short notice, but I was able to get a sub for my usual Saturday Zumba class and the drive is only about three hours and twenty minutes.

Random things Friday:

A few random things.

  • After a ton of trail running and running in the heat, I think my right calf muscle has had enough of chronically being dehydrated in this heat, and uneven running surfaces, because it was cramping something fierce.

foam rollingI managed to find the poor foam roller at the gym, and I found the trigger point and released a lot of the tension and cramping I was feeling.

  • I’m overwhelmed by the congrats I’m getting on my new job! I am so excited to have the job, and now that the cat is officially out of the bag, I’ve gotten a lot of congratulation emails, a lot of hugs, and a lot of high fives.  However, I’m feeling a little overwhelmed and I’m terrified that I’m going to do a bad job at my new job.  And I want to do a good job, I want to stay there for like five years and be the best person they’ve ever had for the job.  Is that too much to ask?
  • I fell asleep in fully sweaty dirty clothing from teaching a class last night and that’s disgusting.  I know it.  But I feel asleep watching “The Challenge” on MTV, and I woke up like at midnight, and I could barely even drag myself into bed.  If it comes as any consolation, I did have the wherewithal to put clean clothes on, and I will be washing my sheets today.
  • We met with the photographer from Blest this morning at Bob Evans, and it was greatThey have really put my mind at ease as it relates to the photos, and I’m positive we are in good hands.  As a total side note, our server was the worst and would disappear for like, decades at a time.
  • I’m trying not to mentally check out at work because I recognize that although I have put my two weeks in, it ain’t over just yet, and I need to give it one last final push.
  • I want to get a GOOD chunk of wedding things done this weekend.  That means a good chunk of invites, some more stems for my bouquets, and paying a few of my vendors the other half of the deposit I owe them.

Tell me something random about today!

This weekend’s to-do list.

First and foremost, I totally am feeling much more confident without makeup, because I started using Proactiv +, and my skin isn’t quite as horrid as it’s been in the past.  So I did the blogger thing, and I took a makeup-free selfie.  This is after a workout too 🙂

photo 2

I’m feeling so much more confident, and who knew that a little forehead fix would give me confidence to post a selfie without makeup?

Okay moving right along!

I’m not sure about you guys, but the only way that the things on this to-do list are actually going to get done is if I lay it out, and if you guys yell at me on Sunday, which is when I’m giving myself til, to get this stuff done.

What’s at stake here?

I will let myself get a VENTI caffe espresso from Starbucks, courtesy of Austin’s wallet, should I be able to complete these tasks in a timely (and complete) fashion.  So I don’t feel guilty, I will do it with skim milk and no whip.  UGH. You guys are no fun!

So…here goes.

>>I’ve got to vacuum my carpets.  There is pet hair everywhere.

>>I need to shampoo my carpets because someone had a little accident behind the table in the breakfast nook.  And no, it’s not what you’re thinking, it was not me.

>>I need to order some more brooches of of this Etsy store I found.

>>I’ve got to email the girl who’s doing our invitations to see how things are coming along.  Cause I need to get those suckers printed and in the mail in the first week of June or so!

>>Update our wedding website.

>>Schedule a date (probably next weekend) when me and Austin can go down to Greensboro and then to Charlotte to taste some food for the wedding/rehearsal dinner.

>>Pour a few candles to test out my candle making skills for wedding favors.

>>I got this weird-ass call from one of my student loan people, so I will be needing to give them a call this week which is what I’m dreading 😦 😦

>>Make a list of all of the little one-time bills I have that are coming up due.

Okay, I think that’s it (ugh) that I need to get done for the weekend.

What’s on your to-do list?

Here’s What! What three things are you obsessed with today!

It’s Friday, Friday, gotta get down on Friday….

Okay, so are you kinda obsessed with the fact that it’s the weekend again? And that Monday is Cinco de Mayo? And that means that I will be drinking tequila. Pictures to come. Or maybe not. I want to keep my job.

Here’s what three things I’m obsessed with this Friday!

mean-girls-im-from-michigan1.  Mean Girls 10th Anniversary.  It literally never gets old.  Ever.  I wish Lindsay the best…I’m serious!

2.  When the drug reps bring lunch to the office.  I’m starting to get obsessed with budgeting a little bit, and I’ve figured out an awesome little trick to making sure that I get a free and healthy lunch.  Now, I try and pack my lunch each day.  On the days that I pack lunch and a drug rep brings lunch, I make a plate of the healthy stuff that most of the folks avoid, and shove it in the back of the fridge with my name on it.  The following day (or sometimes two) I have lunch that’s healthy, and it’s free!  Best. EVER!

3.  The Nike Women’s Half Marathon.  I talked about this earlier today, but look at this.

photo 4My smile could not get any bigger that day, and I was floating on clouds for like days.

This is what I’m obsessed with this week.

What three things are you obsessed with?

What I did yesterday :)

I am far from a fashion blogger – my most fashionable/expensive items of clothing involve some extremely pricey items, like so pricey I don’t feel like it’s appropriate to share with you, but I am doing something really fun next week, and I get to be a little fashionable.

So next week, I’m participating in a fashion show for the Peachy Keen Boutique in Cary, and I want on Friday afternoon after work for a fitting.  Now these are not any of the guaranteed outfits for the show, but here are a few things that I got to try on at the fitting.  (Also I got a compliment on my arms.  What!???  Best day ever!)

photo 1Please excuse the fact that the mirror makes me look short when I’m literally like 5’8″, but here was a cool little dress that made me feel like Tinkerbell!

photo 2This top was swishy, and I liked it.

photo 3

This outfit was my favorite because I could actually wear it to work  The top was SO comfy and was probably, out of all the clothes, the one that fit my style the most.  I don’t know how I would describe my style but this is it.  Good jeans, see through top, and a pair of cute flats.

photo 4-1This one was cool too.  The top was really really really comfy, and I’m trying to figure out how I would style it to wear it in real life.  I love the top, but I might skip the tights and just go for a form-fitting mini dress underneath.  Or a swimsuit!

Which one is your favorite?  What did you do on Friday night?

Here’s What! What three things are you obsessed with?

If you’re new here, I do this every Friday, and here’s last Friday’s so you can kinda get the gist of what we do around here.

So let’s get started!

1.  MY SAVE THE DATES ARE ALL DONE.  Now, by all done, I mean they’re all printed up, and I still need to address them and stick them with stamps, but I am a step closer to getting things accomplished.  And it feels awesome.  I would absolutely show you them, but I want them to be something of a surprise to the folks who I’m sending them to.  But if you’re really curious, email me or comment, and I will definitely send you a little preview.

2.  Something really terrible has happened to me.  I have been waking up early to work out.  And I sort of love it.  Mainly because my body is looking really sexual, and I have been lifting more weights and stuff.  I’m not sure if it’s making me any faster or anything, but my little abs are coming in!

3.  Rock ‘n’ Roll Raleigh.  And this one isn’t a funny ha-ha obsession, but I really loved the race for a few reasons.  The course was hilly, and the race was no-doubt, really challenging, but it was a challenge in the best way.  Even though it was hilly, and I worked really hard, I smiled for most of the race, and it was so arresting to see so many folks out spectating.  The tunnel leading to the finish was incredible.  That roar?  I won’t forget that.

But, all of that said, two men died at the race on Sunday, and I’m still feeling really confused about that.  I feel so deeply for the families of the men, and it makes me want to make sure that I get my check-ups every year.  Can a doctor catch everything?  Certainly not.  But I want a doctor to be able to tell me if I’m not healthy enough for the level of racing that I will be doing.  And I thank these men for helping me remember to take care of myself.

Scenes from the race.

So what three things are you obsessed with on this Friday?

40 mangos later.

Fun fact: the plural of mango is either mangoes or mangos.  This makes me very uncomfortable, and I’m really not sure how to approach this.  Advice is welcome on how to reconcile this battle within myself.

Moving right along.

So, happy Saturday. I’m obsessed with you and I kinda hope you’re pretty obsessed with me too.

So, Friday after work, I sprinted over to the Raleigh Convention Center to work the Rock ‘n’ Roll Convention, and as a little preview to the race, I made sure to snap a few pics so that you all could share in the experience.

DSC_0219I pulled up into the expo lot and started getting excited (and very itchy from that yellow pollen) for all of this.  There is something so special about a good expo that makes your stomach do these amazing flips when you think about a race.

DSC_0221Hello!  Jambo!

Also the camera Sharon, my MIL got me is incredible BYE.

DSC_0223I worked the Gu booth with some really fun partners 🙂

DSC_0226The Brooks “booth” which I’m working tomorrow, is a small city.

DSC_0228Literally not kidding.  It’s a planet.

It has been so fun.  I am working the expo tomorrow as well, and really excited to work and run this race.  I also ran into Benjamin and Juan, the two boys from ESPN walking around the expo, and they said that I was gonna be really really happy with the footage.

After the expo, I ran over to Whole Foods, where Mexican Champagne Mangos were 69 cents each, so I stocked up on about 40. Don’t judge me, you’re being rude if you’re judging me right now, and I’m not interested in hearing it.

photo 1There were actually more mangos…

photo 2So I dehydrated some, I cut some up for smoothies, and made some mango baby food (mango sauce, sorta like applesauce but with mangos) with the help of my little sister, who’s pretty dank as a chef.  If you like the idea of mango sauce, shoot me an email, and maybe if you’re lucky, I’ll post you a recipe.

DSC_0229Austin got me these mason jars, which I sorta guess I need for our wedding anyways, so it worked out for my mango baby Cheri food.

How was your Friday?

Happy Friday! Here’s what! What three things are you obsessed with?

Hi sexy readers!

I have a confession.  Between the marathon training, trying to be a domestic goddess, and work, Mama is tired.  And I’m not sure what to do to get back to feeling like I’m well rested.  But I’ve been staying up late working on the blog, running a ton and not really sleeping a ton.  I really wish there were more hours in the day, but there aren’t, so I really really need to learn to maximize my time.  I’m figuring it out.

But at any rate, here’s what three things I’m obsessed with this week!

  • Demi Lovato.  Bitch is baaad.
This is from Demi’s IG, I obviously didn’t take this photo myself.

I have been a fan for a long time, and I bought tickets for me and my sister to go see her Neon Light’s Tour on Sunday night.  Eep!  I love the voice, and I especially love her because, 1, she is Mexican and doing it for the women of color, and 2, she’s been really open with her struggles with self-harm, an eating disorder, and her Bipolar Disorder.  It’s hard to be open about mental health issues, and she is so cool for doing that.

  • My Garmin.  I’m not getting paid by them (I wish I was) to say this, but I’m still rocking the 610 (now the 620), and I continue to be impressed by all the features I didn’t use until now.  Especially the customizable interval feature, which comes in super handy for speed work!
  • This dog.  I’m literally the biggest dog fan in the world, but I only have one because I live in an apartment.  But look at who I met today at Starbucks?

photo 1

This dog is a malti poo, and his name is Picasso.  He is so cute, but I’m so torn.  I’m a big big fan of rescuing your animals, but how do I acquire a mali-poo like Picacsso in an adoption fashion? Hm.

Happy Friday yawl!  What three things are you obsessed with this Friday?
