Rambling Updates

Hi beauties!

I hope your weekend (last weekend) was really good.  Mine was great, very very busy with the shower, which I promise promise to update you on.  In short, it was absolutely gorgeous.  The cake was one of the best parts, and I froze some, plus its siblings, the cupcakes.

A few rambling updates on this…I think this posts on Thursday, right?  Am I breaking the fourth wall?

  • I have been living in a Lululemon tank and tights for the past two months.  I have to get dressed for meetings, like for the director’s meeting tomorrow, which is a bummer, because I’d really rather be in some buttery activewear.
  • Instagram has a “stories” feature now, similar to Snapchat’s.  Trying to decide how I feel about that.  I really like Snapchat because I have major FOMO and other peoples’ lives are way more interesting than mine.
  • I am missing running a lot.  I am still doing other things, but running became really really painful a while back, and I really really miss it.  It makes me said to think about, and I want to get back to some distance once I’ve recovered enough.
  • Measles have made a landing in Wake County (here).  If you’re a reader in this country, double check to make sure your MMR is up to date.  Especially if you’re one of my college students.  And while you’re at it, make sure your whooping cough and meningitis are where they’re supposed to be.
  • I’m extremely anxious about maternity leave and I almost don’t want to leave because I’m afraid my department will decide they’re better off without me, group fitness will be dismantled, or any other combination of scenarios that my mind is putting together.

  • Are you a huge ice cream fan?  I’ve been seeing this Halo Top stuff all over Instagram.  I grabbed the strawberry yesterday.  Not bad, and you don’t remotely need to eat a pint of it to feel satisfied.

Those are my random updates.  What are you up to?  Random things only.

My sister is getting married tomorrow + random things Friday

Surprise!

My little sister is getting married tomorrow in South Carolina, so tomorrow morning, while all you sleepy-heads are sleeping, I am going to pack myself up, head down, and snap a few photos of my little sister getting hitched.

siblings

Deb is the one on the far right, and this photo was taken when she was the white rabbit in her middle school’s production of Alice in Wonderland.  We were all so little.  And now, she’s getting married like WHAAAA!  It’s so short notice, but I was able to get a sub for my usual Saturday Zumba class and the drive is only about three hours and twenty minutes.

Random things Friday:

A few random things.

  • After a ton of trail running and running in the heat, I think my right calf muscle has had enough of chronically being dehydrated in this heat, and uneven running surfaces, because it was cramping something fierce.

foam rollingI managed to find the poor foam roller at the gym, and I found the trigger point and released a lot of the tension and cramping I was feeling.

  • I’m overwhelmed by the congrats I’m getting on my new job! I am so excited to have the job, and now that the cat is officially out of the bag, I’ve gotten a lot of congratulation emails, a lot of hugs, and a lot of high fives.  However, I’m feeling a little overwhelmed and I’m terrified that I’m going to do a bad job at my new job.  And I want to do a good job, I want to stay there for like five years and be the best person they’ve ever had for the job.  Is that too much to ask?
  • I fell asleep in fully sweaty dirty clothing from teaching a class last night and that’s disgusting.  I know it.  But I feel asleep watching “The Challenge” on MTV, and I woke up like at midnight, and I could barely even drag myself into bed.  If it comes as any consolation, I did have the wherewithal to put clean clothes on, and I will be washing my sheets today.
  • We met with the photographer from Blest this morning at Bob Evans, and it was greatThey have really put my mind at ease as it relates to the photos, and I’m positive we are in good hands.  As a total side note, our server was the worst and would disappear for like, decades at a time.
  • I’m trying not to mentally check out at work because I recognize that although I have put my two weeks in, it ain’t over just yet, and I need to give it one last final push.
  • I want to get a GOOD chunk of wedding things done this weekend.  That means a good chunk of invites, some more stems for my bouquets, and paying a few of my vendors the other half of the deposit I owe them.

Tell me something random about today!

This one time….

This post will be a random collection of random things and memories I’ve had and jotted down over the last couple of weeks, so bear with me.  Then tell me random stuff about yourself so I don’t feel so weird.

So this one time….

//I got a ticket (this was like a month ago) for improperly wearing my seatbelt.  I always, always wear a seatbelt, but I had a kinda bad car accident a few years back, and I hated the way the seatbelt felt when it locked against my collarbone.  I started slipping the belt behind my left arm, and finally got caught for it a few weeks ago.  That’s bad.  But the cop told me about this clippy thing that I could put on the belt that will lift it away from my chest.  Wish I had known that before I got into the really bad habit of slipping the belt behind my armpit. That was an expensive lesson to learn.

//I’m really sore constantly this week.  I officially am signed up to do my Body Pump cert next month, so in the next month or so, I am going to as many classes as possible to get some cueing hints and to pick up good stuff from other teachers…

//This has been good because I’m getting exposure to one really good teacher in particular, and even though I teach Zumba now, I’ve taken some of her helpful hints and reminders to my class.  I got a compliment yesterday about how this was “one of the best classes”.  Some of the things I remembered to do included providing the class with lower impact options, and walking to the back of the class so I could interact with some of the folks on the back row.  All things you can forget, but can be easily picked back up.

//I’ve stopped wearing makeup to work.  It started a few weeks ago, when I was just too tired.  It’s a combo of being too tired and wanting to treat my skin well.  I’ve started using Proactiv, and my acne has, for the most part, cleared up, so I feel pretty confident going “naked” to work.

photo 2I think people are kind of getting used to it, and will probably be startled when I actually wear makeup one of these days.  For right now, I’m just focused on taking good care of my skin.

//My sister had a birthday last week, which got me thinking about the drama surrounding the day she was born.  Or rather, the days leading up to that day.  Do you have time for a short story?  Our car broke down, my mother proceeds to go into early(ish) labor, my father had to jog to a payphone to call the ambulance (it was like 1990) and they carted my mom away.  The cop drove us home in his backseat.

//Fun fact: by the time my mom was my age (26) she had three kids.  I have three pets.  So there’s that.

Your turn!  Tell me something random!
